Stripped Lineages

The collection “Stripped Lineages” is the artist’s first collection. It started when the artist noticed that the strips of tape used to cover and protect parts of her paintings looked beautiful themselves. The artist started incorporating them into her work, and soon was developing connections between works where, as with identities, cultures and DNA, each work received a part from somewhere, developed some of its own character, and passed on something to another. Though each piece is stand-alone, none of the pieces stand alone.

Smoke & Mirrors

The series ‘Smoke & Mirrors’ started through combining line work and ‘stripped’ work. This led to stronger contrasts of flexible flow versus more rigidly delineated lines and framing effects. It is a coming together of two different sides of identity: the need to flow freely and yet to have a framework and consistency in life. People hold these traits to different degrees, depending on their life and character.

Air, Water, DNA

The series ‘Air, Water, DNA’ is inspired by art from Eastern Asia, embracing elements such as the gold repair-mechanism of Kintsugi from Japan, and the cloud or water formations in Chinese ink paintings. This series explores expressions of connection, parallels, and letting go. It combines styles that are unique yet reminiscent of other art forms and artists — showing that on the one hand everything is unique, and on the other that nothing is unrelated. Just like DNA.

Collotype & Karakami Prints — mixed media

In Japan, the saying “Flower Bird Wind Moon” refers to a profound appreciation for nature’s beauty and the artistic spirit, knowledge and insight it inspires.

The botanical theme and two-tone printing techniques led the artist to swap ‘bird’ with ‘shadow’. The works also refer to beauty that is temporary, fading, and fragile–hinting at the Japanese “mono-no-aware”.

High-quality art prints of the artist’s photographs, individually hand-finished using gold-coloured pigment applications inspired by traditional Japanese decorative arts. Fine metallic contouring is used as a structural element within the composition; introducing texture, luminosity, and craftsmanship. The works bridge photography, art, and centuries-old artisanal techniques used on kimonos.

Global Order

Metallic Pen on Paper

“Global Order” is a collection of over a hundred cards, with the traced outline of crockery from orders in cafes, bars and restaurants across the world.

The collection shows that things used in daily life are, by and large, shared globally.

A wink to international relations and diplomacy, it is also an ode to the importance of local cafe’s, roasters, chefs and bartenders. Independent businesses with an eye on fair produce and inclusive hospitality, who influence local & global communities and ethical practices.
